Button Bouquet Tutorial

While both of my boys were at school and my husband was at home with our little princess, I was able to sneak out the other day for an hour to the fabric store. It was total BLISS! I loved every minute of it and could have spent many, many more hours there if time had allowed. I was looking for fabric for my son's upcoming birthday party when I came across some beautiful buttons and felt flowers. My focus then turned to "What can I do with these?". Here is what I came up with: Button Bouquets


These were put into a clay flower pot with spanish moss on top.



I put these into "grass" with floral foam underneath.




I think that these bouquets would be so cute on the table for decoration at a little girl's birthday party. They can be made to coordinate with the colors for your event and they are really easy to make.

Here is what you need:

- Assorted buttons and flowers
- Floral Wire
- Wire Cutters or scissors



To assemble, simply Cut wire into 3 sizes (for varied stem lenghts) 15", 14",and 12". Stack buttons and flwoers to create your desired look. Fold the wire in half (to form a U-shape) and from the top of the buttons down, insert and weave the wire into the button holes. Twist wires together to form stem.

You can insert the wire stems into floral foam and cover with spanish moss or "grass".

{Pottery Barn Kids} Halloween Inspiration

Okay, I just can't stand it anymore. I can't wait any longer to start posting some of the fun Halloween ideas and finds that I have come across. I was looking through my new Pottery Barn Kids catalog tonight and got so giddy over some of their Halloween scenes and items that I decided to back down from my original plan to wait until the end of September to start my Halloween posts. So, I will let Pottery Barn Kids' photos be the starting point for this year's Halloween Inspiration.

I love the wooden "Boo" letters. They are simple, yet SO CUTE! This would be an easy DIY craft. Just find some wooden letters at your local craft store, paint them your desired color/colors, and you've got one fabulous BOO!



I want to be invited to this party. The chairbackers are great.



Aren't these cupcakes cute. Do you think that is coconut on top?



Happy Lanterns. They make me smile. These would be great for a party with younger children...not too scary!

DIY: Popsicle Invitations

I have received several emails asking me how I made the popsicle invitations for the Summer Popsicle Party that I did. I apologize for taking so long to post the details. The summer just got away from me!



To make these invitations, you will need:
- Popsicle Sticks (I used the extra wide ones)
- White card stock
- Colored card stock (I used multiple colors for different "flavored" popsicles)
- A 2" Scalloped Punch
- A Rounded edge punch
- Adhesive or glue
- Ribbon (optional)



Cut a piece of white card stock and a piece of your colored card stock to measure 5 1/4" by 4" each. Fold each piece in half.



Using your scalloped punch, punch a "bite shape" into the top right corner of your folded piece of colored card stock.



Repeat the same step with the white piece of folded card stock BUT punch less off this time (you want the white to show when you place this piece inside of your colored piece). Adhere the white piece of card stock to the inside of the colored piece.



Using your rounded edge punch, round the remaining corners of your popsicle.



Adhere your popsicle stick to the invitation, attached ribbon at the end, and Wa-La...you are all done! You can either hand-write the party details inside the inviation or print them out on the white cardstock before you start the project ( I chose this option).

Back to School Favor Bags

My 3 year old is starting preschool next week and the mother of one of his classmates is hosting a preschool party for all of the kids to meet eachother before school starts. I offered to supply favor bags for each child--just something for them to take home and be excited about. This is what I came up with:



These favor bags are SOOO easy to put together. I bought unfinished mini apple chalkboards, some brown paper lunch bags, and red ribbon.



I painted each apple chalkboard...



personalized them with each child's name, filled each bag with a few fun treats, and attached the apples to the favor bag with some cute red ribbon. So easy, very inexpensive, and pretty cute!

A Sunny Yellow and Gray Baby Shower

I love this sunny, SHEEK baby shower by The Babs Blog. These two California sisters left no detail undone. Jill and Kari threw a gender-neutral baby shower for their sister-in-law with a "loose birdie theme". The invitations announced "A New Little Birdie Joins the Nest..." (LOVE it!).



The girls decided to have the flower arrangements done in birdcages to stay with the "birdie" theme. These beautiful arrangements were done by Tulip Floral Design Studio.



They set up a cupcake table...



And a craft table to help guest create a page that would be part of a board book made for the mommy-to-be and baby (this was done in place of shower games...what a great idea!).



Paper parasols were provided, allowing the guests to have "instant shade".





The favors included a gray box filled with Dutch mints, adorned with a cute ribbon-and-bird medallion.

Fab Find: The Hidden Cupcake

I love family traditions. I have such fond memories of traditions that my family followed when I was growing up and I am trying to provide my own children with the same type of memories as well. This week's Fab Find offers your family a new favortie birthday tradition: the hidden cupcake!



The fun begins on the morning of your child's birthday. You place the cupcake in a visible spot for your child to find (like the breakfast table) hinting at the fun that's to come. Later that day, the cupcake disappears and is hidden away, waiting for the birthday boy or girl to find it AND the suprise that is waiting inside. You can "fill" your cupcake with sweet treats, jewelry, a gift card...the list goes on.



All 3 of our kids have birthdays in the fall and early winter. I can't wait to try this new birthday tradition out with them this year and see their response. You can find out more information about The Hidden Cupcake here.
